Rosedale Farms: One Weekend, One Couple, Five Generations of History

Rosedale Farms & Vineyards has been family land since 1920. Five generations of the same family have worked this property in the Farmington River Valley, and that history shows in everything from the handpainted vine mural on the barn to the way owners Lynn and Marshall approach the couples who get married here. When you book Rosedale, the entire vineyard is yours for the weekend — they host one event, and one event only, per weekend.

The setting is genuinely stunning. Cocktails on the lawn as the Heublein Tower watches from the ridge above Penwood State Forest. Dinner and dancing under the 60-by-90 tent strung with bistro lights, surrounded by 4.5 acres of working vineyard. And as the night winds down, two fire pits under an open Connecticut sky. There's no manufactured elegance here — just a working farm that happens to be one of the most beautiful places to get married in Hartford County.

That said, Rosedale is a true DIY venue. The property is yours; the logistics — catering, coordination, sound, lighting — are entirely in your hands. For your DJ, that means you need someone who arrives with outdoor-rated gear, a clear understanding of the tent's acoustics and power requirements, and the experience to work without a venue coordinator guiding the timeline. That's exactly how we operate.

Built for Outdoor Vineyard Weddings

Rosedale is a DIY venue — which means your DJ carries more of the night than they would at a venue with a built-in coordinator. Here's how we cover every moment from vineyard ceremony to fire pit send-off.

Vineyard Ceremony Sound

Weatherproofed wireless lapel mic for your officiant, outdoor speakers for processional and recessional — all set up on the vineyard lawn well before guests arrive.

Lawn Cocktail Hour

Music flows from ceremony to cocktail hour without a pause. Guests mix on the vineyard lawn as the light drops over the Heublein Tower — the right soundtrack makes that moment unforgettable.

Tent Reception DJ + MC

Grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, toasts, cake cutting — every moment announced and cued. We manage the timeline closely because at a DIY venue, the DJ is often the one keeping the night on track.

Tent Lighting

Dance floor lighting calibrated for the tent environment — warm, not harsh. The bistro perimeter lighting at Rosedale already sets a beautiful tone; we complement it rather than compete with it.

Photo Booth Add-On

Open-air photo booths work beautifully at Rosedale — the vineyard backdrop, the barn, the fire pits all make for memorable photos. Guests get printed keepsakes on the night.

Full Planning Consultation

At a DIY venue like Rosedale, the pre-wedding planning session matters more than anywhere else. We walk through the timeline in detail, map every cue, and coordinate with your day-of coordinator so the night runs exactly as planned.

He kept the dance floor packed all night and listened to exactly what we wanted. Friends are still talking about how great the music was. I LOVE working with them.

Other Simsbury-Area Venues We Serve

Rosedale is one of our favorite venues in the Farmington Valley — but it's far from the only one. We cover the full Simsbury corridor, from riverside ballrooms to historic inns.

Outdoor Weddings Need a Different Kind of DJ.

Indoor ballroom DJs and outdoor vineyard DJs are not the same job. At Rosedale, you're managing open-air acoustics, variable wind, ambient farm sounds, a tent that's half-open most of the summer, and a guest list that came specifically for a relaxed, beautiful outdoor experience — not a nightclub.

We've played enough outdoor weddings in Connecticut and western Massachusetts to know how to dial in the sound for a tent setting without overpowering the space, how to keep energy building through dinner so the dance floor hits right when it should, and how to be the person who holds the timeline together when there's no venue coordinator doing it.

That combination of outdoor technical competence and real event-management experience is what makes an outdoor vineyard wedding work. It's what your guests will feel without knowing why — and it's what you'll remember when you look back at the night.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the audio challenges of DJing at Rosedale Farms?
Rosedale is a fully outdoor venue — the 60x90 tent sits in an open agricultural setting, which means wind, ambient farm sounds, and sound that disperses rather than bouncing. We bring weatherproofed outdoor equipment sized for the tent's footprint, position speakers to cover the dance floor cleanly without blasting adjacent dining areas, and confirm power access well in advance. See our outdoor wedding DJ guide for a deeper look at how we handle open-air venues.
Does Rosedale Farms provide a day-of coordinator?
Rosedale is a DIY venue — Lynn and Marshall provide the property, but couples hire their own vendors including a day-of coordinator. We work seamlessly with whichever coordinator you bring in. If you don't have one yet, we're happy to share names of coordinators we've worked with at outdoor Farmington Valley venues.
How do you handle the transition from vineyard ceremony to tent reception?
At Rosedale, ceremony and reception happen in the same open outdoor setting, so the transition is about sound coverage and timing rather than room changes. We position our ceremony setup on the vineyard lawn, carry cocktail hour audio from the same system while guests move, and bring the main tent reception system up for dinner and dancing. Everything flows without a gap.
Is Rosedale Farms available year-round?
Rosedale hosts weddings from June through mid-October only, Friday through Sunday, with one event per weekend. The vineyard is entirely yours when you book it. Peak Saturdays fill well in advance — book both venue and vendors as early as possible.
What other Simsbury venues do you serve?
We cover the full Simsbury and Farmington Valley corridor — The Riverview, Flamig Farm, The Simsbury Inn, Hop Meadow Country Club, and private properties throughout the valley. See our Simsbury wedding DJ page for the full picture.
